In recent days, Google has reported an Android Vulnerability that users of certain Samsung, Vivo, and Pixel smartphones are at high risk of being hacked. The vulnerability is related to a security flaw in the Exynos modem, which manages internet connectivity through Wi-Fi and data. This system is reportedly vulnerable to relatively simple actions that can allow hackers to access smartphones with just a phone call.

The issue is serious and affects many popular smartphones sold worldwide. Samsung, in particular, has a significant number of phones on the list, including the Galaxy S22, S22+, S22 Ultra, A53, A33, A12, A13, A04, A21, A71, M33, and M13. In the case of Vivo, the affected models include the S16, S15, X30, X60, and X70. Even Google’s own Pixel 6 and 7 are affected, although the company has already released an update to address the issue.

If a hacker gains the ability to remotely run code at a device’s baseband level, which is managed by the Exynos modems that convert cell signals to digital data, they could potentially gain access to all data flowing in and out of the device. This includes cellular calls, text messages, and cell data, all without the user ever knowing they’ve been hacked. Essentially, the hacker would have unrestricted access to the device’s data.

The potential consequences of a successful hack are severe, and users are urged to take immediate action to update their device’s software and take other necessary steps to protect their personal information. Google has recommended that users disable Wi-Fi calling on their phones to reduce the likelihood of a successful hack.

Samsung has reportedly stated that they are working on solutions to address the problem. In the meantime, it is essential for smartphone users to remain vigilant about their device’s security and take steps to protect their personal information. Regularly updating your device’s software, using two-factor authentication, and avoiding suspicious emails and links can help prevent cyber-attacks.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that hackers have targeted smartphones. As technology advances and devices become more connected, the risks of cyber-attacks continue to grow. It’s crucial for users to stay informed about the latest threats and take steps to protect themselves and their devices.
